If you weren’t aware, a flight departing at midnight isn’t a lot of fun. It was so strange. We found out just prior to flying that we were making a stopover in Guatemala City (queue Shortland Street quotes) but luckily we didn’t have to get off the plane, it was just to refuel and drop off some passengers and pick up others.
Probably the weirdest flight ever. We got given breakfast at 4am. Luckily we slept most of the way.
When we arrived at the airport we were greeted with a lot of uncertainty as no one really spoke English and there was an issue with our prebooked shuttle to our hotel – as in, it never came. Luckily there was a taxi driver kind enough to help out two muchachas until he finally arrived (and then asked us for a tip).
The shuttle driver was very friendly, and was keen to show us his homeland, but we ended up passing out as soon as we buckled up and proceeded to snooze the entire way across Costa Rica!
We did stop to look at some crocodiles though.
The hotel is in the middle of a rainforest type area, up on a hill in between the town of Quepos and Manuel Antonio National Park. When we arrived to find our room had no electricity, no one spoke English, there was no wifi, and we had planned to use this time to rest and plan the rest of our year abroad, we were pretty stressed out. So we went for a walk down to Quepos and found an English speaking tour guide who set us up with a tour starting at 7.30 the next morning, and told us where to find wifi, supermarkets and anything else we may need. Love that guy.
The rest of the evening was pretty chilled. We dined at the hotel restaurant, and then hit the sack.
