1st Day of Contiki!

We woke up feeling a little nervous and started the day with Breakfast at 8am. In the breakfast room we met 2 aussie girls who we quickly secured a friendship with. After breakfast we met our tour guide Monty who briefed us all on how Contiki works and what we would be doing etc.

We then went down to the French Quarter to Cafe du Monde where we tried Beignets - Famous New Orleans/French doughnut type thing covered with powdered sugar. Which goes EVERYWHERE.

We wandered back to the hotel via the french markets and met the rest of the contiki group to head to the Bayou swamp area for an airboat tour around the swamps. It was awesome!
We saw LOTS of alligators, a baby alligator called Wally, a catfish, an owl and the graveyard from the movie 'the lucky one'

That evening the whole group went out for a dinner at a creole restaurant where we tried alligator and became certified cajun dancers thanks to a lovely elderly male instructor. We then made our way down Bourbon Street for a while and tried Hand Grenades! We were very responsible though and retreated home before midnight as we had to be up and on the bus ready to go at 7.45am the next morning.
