Washington DC Day 2

Today was a huge day filled with many museums, monuments and important buildings!
We caught the subway to the Smithsonian and our first stop was the National Museum of American History.

We saw:
The Emancipation Proclamation

Abe Lincoln’s Hat

Dorothy’s Ruby Slippers from the Wizard of Oz

Kermit the Frog Puppet

The remains of the Philadelphia – fought for independence from Great Britain

Presidential Street Signs

Chelsea Clinton’s Pointe Shoes

Stood at a Presidential Podium

Michelle Obama’s Inauguration Ball dress

The original Star Spangled Banner (couldn’t take photos of it)

Julia Childs’ Kitchen

We then went to the American Museum of Natural History.

There was a Mammals exhibition

A Dinosaur exhibition

An Ice Age exhibition

A MOA SKELETON

A Titanaboa exhibition (largest snake in the world – 48ft long)

A wildlife photography exhibition

The Hope Diamond

Animal Skeletons

We then popped across the National Mall for a photo at the Smithsonian Castle

Walked through the National Art Gallery’s Sculpture garden

Went to the National Archives and saw the original Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution (weren’t allowed to take photos)

We then saw the Capitol Building where congress meets and presidents are inaugurated.

Unfortunately by this time, the Capitol was closing but we hope to get back there to have a look around before we leave DC.

We walked back home past the Library of Congress.

The end of our day of learning!
