We spent the morning of our last day in Chicago attempting to deal with our luggage situation. We had too much luggage for contiki and our bus to Nashville so somehow needed to lose about a quarter of the weight in each of our suitcases.
We missioned to the post office and purchased the biggest postal box we could. Missioned back to the hotel with the giant box in tow and filled the box with our heaviest winter clothes (which we shouldn't need after Chicago, although we've just seen there's a low of -1 for Nashville tomorrow with a high of 16... how is that possible?!)
We filled out the postal details in massive writing all over the box and were told upon returning that we'd done it all backwards and had to start again. Took to the box with a permanent marker and re-wrote the address on the tiny label that we were given. 2 hours later we managed to send the box (30lbs back to california for $30. Stoked).
After this we jumped on a bus downtown and went on a charm hunt. The jewelery store only had humongous chicago charms so we flagged that but did manage to find a cute apple charm for New York which the man gave us a discount on. We got stuck in the store for about half an hour while the owner attempted to sell us various other charms ("I've got a cute santa, there's a pig here, how about a key?").
Had a delicious breakfast/lunch at Protein Bar and then went to the Shedd Aquarium to see the Dolphins and Beluga whales (now up there with our favourite animals).
After that we went back to the hotel to collect our bags (via the supermarket for train snacks) and made our way to Chicago station ready for another overnight train ride to Memphis.
