Started off the day with a bit of trivia, Chicago is on Central time, not eastern, so we a) had an extra hour of train go get through, and b) were going to need a lot of coffee today.
Arrived in Chicago at a bright and early 8.45, and after failing to figure out their public transport system, we opted for a taxi to take us to our hotel. Luckily they already had a room ready for us, so we dumped our bags and realigned our spines before locating the nearest Starbucks to caffienate and peruse tourist brochures. p.s. our bed is gigantic. think California King bed... only in Chicago.
The hop on hop off bus took our fancy, as it lasts for the duration of our stay and it was a good way for us to get to know the city. FYI, winter = off season -> not much is happening in Chicago at this time of the year other than Lake Michigan freezing over.
From the little red tourist trolley, we saw
Millenium Park and the giant Bean
Water Tower
Navy Pier (will explore tomorrow)
the Church from My Best Friend's Wedding
and the church from the Saint Valentine's Massacre
If you look closely you can see the bullet hole from the massacre between the branches
Soldier field - the Stadium that the Chicago Cubs play at
Garretts Popcorn
Best popcorn Caramel everrr
Candyality
Willis Tower (formerly Sears tower) the tallest building
The Excalibur - Chicago's haunted building
Lake Michigan
NBC building
Wrigley building (1st building to have a bridge between buildings)
Picasso Sculpture
Jewelers Row
and HEAPS more - but its kind of hard to take pictures in a little tour trolley - with windows and extreme tiredness compromising the photos.
